Continuing Chinese Knotting, a virtual class through Zoom

    Instructor:Carol Wang

Course Description:Expanding on the basics of Chinese knotting. We will start with some common sennits, the snake knot and phoenix tail. Then we explore two significant cloverleaf knot branch families, the bao/treasure knots and the stellar/constellation knots. Next we sample a few double coin knot variants including the prolong knot, the ocean plat, and a few ways to tie double coin sennits. Then we will tackle some closed braid/turk’s head knots including the set of square CBKs and 3 lead CBKs. To conclude, we will examine finishing techniques and look at a few giftable instant gratification projects.

How to join in with the Online Workshops

Each of our online workshops is run by an expert braiding tutor over 3 – 4 weeks via written instructions and live Zoom sessions.  The Zoom sessions are recorded and available to view for 1 week after each session.

Weeks 1 and 2 are delivered via BraidsandBands on groups.io.  If you are not already on BraidsandBands, you will need to create an account on groups.io and ask to join the BraidsandBands group as follows:

  • Click on “Sign up” and create an account using your email address and a password of your choice (at least 6 characters long) and click on “create an account”.

  • You will be sent a confirmation email.  Click on the link within the email to confirm your account.  This takes you back to the website and enables you to customise your account, find groups and create groups.

  • To find “BraidsandBands”, click on “Find groups”, search for “BraidsandBands” and click on the link.

Week 3 of our online workshops is offered to Braid Society members only.  Members should log into this website, go to the MEMBERS’ AREA and click on BRAIDS WORKSHOP FORUM.  Each workshop is listed and the messages and downloads are posted into the workshop files.  If you subscribe to the Forum, or to a particular workshop, you will receive email notifications when new information is posted.

If you have any problems registering with BraidsandBands or logging into the website, contact admin “at” braidsociety.com.
